The Andrew MacKinnon Foundation was established in memory of a resilient and inspiring young man whose life was cut short on the football pitch at just 15 years old. A committed player for Salvesen Community Football Club and a devoted Hearts fan, Andrew MacKinnon’s love for football was his defining attribute.
Andrew, who valiantly battled heart disease from his youth, endured not just one but two ICD surgeries, highlighting his extraordinary courage and determination. Despite these formidable health obstacles, his passion for football stayed unwavering, serving as a profound source of inspiration for all who knew him.
In the wake of Andrew’s passing, a vigil was held at Forrester High School where over 1,000 people from the community attended, a testament to the profound love and admiration this exceptional young man had engendered in the hearts of many. Andrew’s football club, Salvesen CFC, remembered him as a “very talented footballer, a great teammate, and a wonderful young man.”
The Andrew MacKinnon Foundation was formed to carry forward Andrew’s legacy, harnessing his passion for football to inspire young athletes and unite communities in honour of a life beautifully played.
Our Mission
The Andrew MacKinnon Foundation seeks to inspire, support, and empower young football enthusiasts, particularly those who might not otherwise have the means to pursue their passion for the sport. Our mission is to break down the financial barriers that often stand in the way of developing talent, to foster a love for the game, and to bring communities together, just as Andrew always did.
Our Initiatives
Our foundation achieves its mission through a range of initiatives. We offer sponsorships to young athletes, providing them with opportunities to train, learn, and grow in a supportive and nurturing environment. We also run community programs aimed at encouraging participation in football at all levels, promoting fitness, and instilling a lifelong love for the game.
